Sweetwater offers Bronte water at 4.5 cents per thousand
In a letter to Bronte Mayor Whitt, Sweetwater proposes supplying Bronte and Robert Leewater with water from a planned Oak Creek reservoir at four and one half cents per thousand gallons, with a minimum annual payment tied to Bronte’s supply. UCRA also seeks to build a dam at the same site, and Bronte officials deem the rate and pipe costs—estimated around $250,000 for an eight inch line—likely infeasible. Bronte’s stance follows a belief that cooperation with Coke County’s Nolan County town is improbable due to piping costs, while Sweetwater cites a $2.5 million bond plan to increase its own water supply and reserve capacity for Bronte subject to regulatory approval.
