The schedule lists meals for Monday March with fish fillets and macaroni and cheese plus vegetables and fruit cobbler. Tuesday features corn pone pie spinach corn buttered corn beets and rice pudding. Wednesday offers barbecue chicken boiled potato creamed peas congealed salad rolls sliced peaches and peanut butter cookies. Thursday serves baked ham buttered rice green beans cabbage pineapple slaw rolls and chocolate pudding. Friday concludes with a holiday.
Oak Creek Lake sees renewed fishing activity with black bass as the primary target and several crappie catches. The past week brought good channel catfish in 2 to 8 pound class via trolling, and overall fishing and visitor numbers are rising.
Mrs Ernestine Powel led a Bronte HD Club program on Arts and Crafts at the city hall last Wednesday. Hostess Mrs Taylor Emerson greeted members. four visitors attended and roll call response was my hobby. Members present included Mrs C B Arrott, Truman Parker, Ronald Walton, Charles Ragsdale, Leslie Rolla and Mrs Emer.
Weekend visitors include Clifford Gaston of Sterling City and family, Mathie Romine of Sweetwater, Jeanette McKenzie of Big Spring, Artie Walls in Colorado City, and other relatives. James E. Childress, 91, died Feb. 19. services at Cate-Spencer Funeral Chapel. WMU met at the Baptist Church. MYF speaker Steve Harper at United Methodist Church. WSCS met at the Methodist Church. Sweetheart Banquet at the Baptist Church with about 60 attendees.
Rev. Jim Clark spoke on the subject Bible Comments on Things in Space during the program. The event highlighted reflections on celestial topics from a biblical perspective.
Navy Lt. jg Charles T. Boecking, son of Bronte residents, toured Acapulco aboard the heavy cruiser USS Saint Paul flagship of Commander First Fleet. The five day port visit featured sightseeing and water sports including deep sea fishing skin diving water skiing and parachute rides behind a power boat. The stop offered a break before deployment to Vietnam in the spring.
Ranger Insurance of Houston announces a four year 2000 scholarship for high school seniors in the area. It rewards academics, character, need and activity involvement. Applications through Bronte agency contact Louvenia K. Rees. Deadline April 15 1969. Scholars selected by spring 1969 for fall semester.
