Lodge No. 962 has about 55 members and meets the first Monday of each month with Thursday evenings. Master A Gentry, C R Warden, L R Scott, and Junior Warden fill leadership roles. Hubert Whitt, local Santa Fe agent, served as Master for three terms, a notable honor.
Due to illness affecting about forty percent of students, schools were dismissed last Monday December 17 and will reopen January 2. Supt Jeff Dean notes the early break aims to halt further sickness while Supt and Mrs Dean and Principal and Mrs Gassiot extend Christmas wishes.
School closes for the holidays as faculty members map trips to refresh minds. Betty Ruth Crow visits Chicago, Thelma and Lillian Carr stay in Van Court, Frankie Beth Nelson goes to Snyder, J. T. Henry and Mrs. Henry visit Fort Worth, and Supt. Jeff Dean and his wife spend Christmas in Balmorhea.
Merle Proctor of Bronte won the roping contest at the Robert Lee rodeo with a 140.5 second time on four calves, defeating Bill Guest of Abilene who failed to rope his last calf. Calf roping standout performances came from Bob Fields Wayne McCabe and Merle Proctor as Brahma calves challenged riders. W H D Club supplied ham burgers and hot coffee to a chilly crowd.
Injured two weeks ago in a collision near San Angelo, Mrs. Nedra Brock has been released from the hospital and Mrs. Timmons is improving. Three children, Robert Glenn Brock age 8 Ellen Carol 4 Patsy 6, were injured in the crash that destroyed both cars.
In Bronte during 1944 and 1945 only two deaths occurred within city limits. J T Henry shows dedicated work and plans further activity. Bronte residents greet neighbors warmly. Community Service Club outlines projects ahead of January 11 meeting. Four Future Farmer chapters operate in Ballinger District. A playful math riddle ends with a challenge about revealing a pool location.
