Bronte Longhorns Clin Regional Crown in West Texas
The Bronte Longhorns secured the Class B Region 2 title with a 23 to 29 win over the Gundown Roughnecks in Snyder. Bronte led 29 7 through three quarters before Sundown staged a late surge. Nicky Arrott scored three touchdowns while Keith McCutchen connected with Randy Barbee for another. Willie Zuniga added three extra points and a two point conversion.

Jr Farm Skill Team Heads to State Contest
Four members of the Bronze Future Farmers of America Chapter junior skills team will travel with sponsor J. T. Henry to Huntsville for a state contest on Saturday. The team members are Randy Gibbs Danny Carper Eugene Scott and Richard Reyes. They won first at the district contest in San Angelo and also won the area contest at Big Spring earning a berth in the state contest. Their demonstration uses old tires to make flower and shrub planters and livestock feeding containers. The group will stay in Huntsville Friday night and return to Bronte Saturday night after the event.

Council Approves Gas Rate Raise In Bronze City
Bronze city council approved a 17 percent gas rate increase for local customers at last Thursday’s meeting. Lone Star Gas Company had requested 24 percent, claiming the rise is needed for a fair return on its city investment. City secretary Helen Kirkland said a company representative reported no word yet from headquarters on the approval.

Hospital Improvements Underway at Bronte Facility
Work is in progress at Bronte Hospital and John Harris Clinic with interior painting near completion. Painters will move to the clinic area next week as a new communications system is installed to link nurses stations with patient rooms and telephones are added in every room for about 80 patients. Dr. John R. Harris, owner, says further improvements are planned in coming weeks.
