Weather and crop outlook for northwest Texas in late November
The region saw an inch or more of rain improving topsoil to eight to 12 inches depth. Wheat sowing exceeded 60 percent before the rains, but much volunteer growth and poor subsoil moisture create a risky, wind and winter-kill vulnerable outlook. Cotton and grain sorghums harvest is ~90 percent done, sugar beets delayed by rain and cold, peanuts damaged slightly but needed moisture. Rice harvest largely complete at about 90 percent.
