New baby Sandra Sue born August 11 at Bronte Hospital to Mr and Mrs Ola Jackson weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces. Donald Lemon born August 7 at Bronte Hospital to Mr and Mrs James Saunders of Blackwell weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce.

Bronte Swimmers Travel to Robert Lee Meet

A number of Bronte swimmers head to Robert Lee on Saturday for a meet with Coke County teams. Robert Lee hosts events marking the end of its summer recreation program with diving and racing, mostly relay races, starting at 6 p m. A tennis tournament follows at 8. Public attendance is invited.

Funeral Service Held Wednesday For Mrs Raney 97

Funeral services for Emugene Victoria Raney 97 were held at Blackwell Methodist Church with Rev Jarrell Sharp and Rev Douglas Gossett officiating. Burial followed in Blackwell cemetery. She died at 7 am Monday in Pecan Grove Rest Home Sweetwater born August 6 1861 in Coryell County married J G Raney in 1886 farmed west of Blackwell after 1910. Survivors include two sons a daughter a brother a sister 31 grandchildren and 32 great great grandchildren.

Coke County farmers push Senate Bill 4071 support

Several members of the Coke County Farm Bureau telegrammed Washington urging passage of Senate Bill 4071. Ed ward M. Cumbie said the measure, backed by the American Farm Bureau, would offer cotton farmers a choice of acreage and price supports and extend the Wood Act. If not passed, large cuts in cotton and rice allotments would occur and wool would revert to a high loan program.
