Rites Wednesday For Virgil Rogers
Funeral services for John Virgil Rogers 78 were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bronte Church of Christ with Melvin Placke officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery under Newby Funeral Home direction. He died Monday in Shimon Hospital San Angelo. Born May 15 1895 in Coke County he lived there all his life as a stockman. He married Iva May Ford July 2 1916 at Oak Creek. Survivors include wife two sons Leon and Wayne both of Waco a daughter Mrs J T Simpson of Waco a brother Albert Larkin Rogers of Bronte nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Bronte Fire Department treasurer C. E. Bruton reports the fire truck fund rising to 3103 dollars on Thursday morning. Donations include Robert Hugh, Gladye Sims, Jim Mackey, Cactus Cane, Mrs. O. L. Abdabroc, LeDrew Amott and others, all to be used for the new truck.

Girls Tennis Finals Run Ends in Regional Meet
Joe Ann Raughitton and Shalom Cooper reached the finals at the regional tennis tourney held last weekend in Lubhbocs. They lost to two girls from Nagwareth, who claimed second in the state race. Raughitton and Cooper beat Ira 6-2 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Tomaillo 6-2 6-0 in the semifinals before falling 0-6 6-4 0-6 to Nazare.

Golfers Second At Regional Meet
Bronte High School golf team finished second at the regional meet with a team score of 682, eight strokes behind Booker's 674. Wayne Alexander led Bronte with 150 to take medalist honors and advance to state on May 3. Individual scores included Alexander 150 and teammates Diam 171 Ratughton 171 Bailey 177 Cowlucha 184 Fravce 221. Alexander led by 11 strokes over the next competitor. At state, he will face Salado's John Preston who shot one stroke better than him last year.

Robert Lee gets new Texas Highway maintenance warehouse
The Texas Highway Department awarded a contract to V. D. Burk Construction Co of San Angelo for a large maintenance building on State Highway 158 east of Robert Lee. The facility will cover over 60 000 square feet and include offices a shop stock room and equipment area with a late 1974 opening planned.

Volleyball tourney winners announced
Bronte won the men s division and Vicks Composition of San Angelo won the women s division in the volleyball tournament held here last week. In the men s bracket Robert Lee placed second Highland third and Fiveash took consolation. Town Clowns of Bronte were second in the women s division Carlsbad third and STE Printing Abilene won consolation. Bronte s roster includes Jilin Morrow Tom Luttrell Bobby Hart Larry Robinson Garland Richards James Tilwell and Monte England. The Clowns lineup lists Mary Mion now Bernija Tidwell Dana Robinson Johnnie Luttrell Charlotte Jackson Eva Lee and Dorothy Bronte.
