Uncle Huie jokes about spring cleaning and the changes it brings, laments overdone renovations, and notes spring’s arrivals from flowers to mosquitoes. He muses that spring behaves like a politician, promising much but delivering little.
A narrator complains that promises fade after elections as summer brings heat flies weeds and higher taxes plus no new roads. He notes Poland trips up defense aid at 80 million dollars the same as our aid, calling it a tax‑cut racket. Personal issues upset neighbors with a separation after 15 years of marriage.
Mrs. Annie Justice Swaim of Eden was guest speaker at the Euterpean Club meeting held at the home of Mrs. L. W. Sweet in Blackwell. She spoke on Emergence of Women and noted her work as a lawyer and travels abroad. Forty guests attended with Gladys Stoepler accompanying Mrs. Swaim.
Bronze performers are invited to the Junior Grand Ole Opera Show at Green Mountain community center Friday night at 8 p.m. The event showcases local talent with a mix of western and folk music.
Miss Glenda Sparks and William Fletcher married Friday night at the Sparks home in Sterling City. Rev C R Blake officiated. Bride wore lace gown with veil and carried a white Bible. Ona Mae Bilderback was bridesmaid and Arvel Lee Blake was best man. They plan a New Mexico honeymoon and will reside in Sterling City.
