The Junior High volleyball squad captured the district title with players named Carla Ball Susan Geist Rosemary Sanchez and Debbie Frazee in a front row lineup.
Brenite High School travels to Levelland for the regional tournament at South Plains Junior College. They face Anthony Friday at 10:30 a.m. and will relay results on KRUN. Coach Zula Sweetn leads the team with a 7-3 season record after bi district wins.
The original Cecil B DeMille film King of Kings will be shown at the Texas Theatre Bronte Tuesday at 6 and 8 33 PM Presented by the UMYF of First United Methodist Church Admission is appreciated but donations are welcomed to cover expenses and film costs The showing includes the resurrection scene in color and runs in the week before Easter with a cordial invitation to all in the Bronte area.
The Coke County assessor reports 2,768 vehicle registrations as of the April 1 deadline for 1974. Of these, 1,414 tags were for passenger cars, 58 for commercial pickups, 319 for large pickups, and 454 for miscellaneous vehicles including trailers motorcycles and other small craft.
Five Bronze High School students qualified for the regional meet after District 9B competition last Friday and Wednesday. Leah Barbee, Bobby Hamilton, Sarah Heaner, Janie Boughton, and Kim Caperton earned spots for the April 20 event in Lubbock, with Forsan leading the meet at 122 points and Miles close behind.
Donations toward a new Bronte fire truck total 2878 after recent gifts from J H Phillips Edminstom Florence Roberts Son Mrs Sid Eubanks Bonnie McAulay C E Clark Elmer Hurley Corkeys Exxon Womack Hipp and others. Public contributions may be given to any fire department member city hall or The Bronte Enterprise office.
Voters in Bronte and surrounding areas will choose three school trustees from eight candidates led by incumbent James Arnold Tidwell. Other races include mayoral and alderman contests, hospital district director races, and city council seats with multiple incumbents not seeking re election. Two polling sites operate at Bronte City Hall and Teerhyson’s Green’s Store with local presiding judges listed.
Easter plans at Tennyson Ba st Church include pre-Easter services on Friday and Saturday April 2 and 18 at 7 30 p.m. led by Rev. Bennie Simuth of Lindell Baptist Church San Angelo. Sunrise Easter on Mount Margaret will be conducted by Mrs. A C Donattich of San Angelo, with further sunrise services at the church for those preferring not to climb the mountain as Rev. Blake preaches. Regular Sunday worship is at 11 a m with evening service on Easter Sunday.
The Coke Country 4-H Clubs sponsor a rabies vaccination pro brai fund on April 5 for area pet owners. Dr. Paul Hudman from San Angelo will vaccinate dogs and cats in Robert Lee County Park from 9 to 10 a.m. and in Bronte from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The fee is $4.00. Distemper hepatitis and other shots can be given on request.
Bronte athletes excel across divisions at the district tournament in San Angelo. Jean Ann Raughton and Shilton Cooper won junior high doubles, Leah Bambee and Sheri Cooper claimed high school girls doubles, with several other Bronte players reaching finals and advancing toward the April 19 20 regionals in Lubbock.
Tritonil Gas Co. will drill two 5 300 foot wildcats near Bronte. No. 1 C N Webb Jr is located two miles east of Bronte and half a mile north of the Leppart Palo Pinto field. No. 1 J B Mackey lies 3 14 miles northeast of Bronte and near Fort Chadbourne and Rawlings multipay fields.
