Postmaster Daniel W. Coggeshall protests a one side parking scheme outside the Hope Street Post Office. He notes that most of the day the curb is unusable for patrons needing to enter the building, hindering business and parking near the bank as well.
The Postmaster and local shopkeepers clash over a one-side parking proposal along the main thoroughfare. Some support meters on Hope Street, noting meters could fund city needs and be self-sustaining, while many oppose restricting public parking near the Post Office.
Prudence Island residents, at a Sunday meeting led by William Esau, secured winter schedule changes for next summer. The PRUDENCE ISLAND Navigation Co will keep a boat overnight with 6 am departures, extend the summer schedule past Labor Day, reduce Hog Island stops, and publish timetables earlier. Elmer Angell notes winter service remains normal with two Monday Wednesday trips and three Saturday trips, through November 2.

The Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps finished tied for ninth with the Warren Indians at 822 points in the National U L sponsored contest in New York City last month. Twenty corps competed with the Indians claiming fifth place front.
Forty nine prospective students have registered for Bristol Public School Departments adult education evening classes led by Superintendent Edward J. Fitzgerald. Registration reopens tonight at Colt Memorial High School from 7 to 8 30 p m. Courses run Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 in Andrews School offering a three year commercial diploma for non graduates plus typing shorthand accounting home economics woodworking and an 8th grade grammar class. Miss Anne D Sisson is principal with potential additional courses if demand exists.
Bristol Boy Scout Drum and Bugle Corps returned from Sturbridge with 10 prizes including eight firsts and two seconds to retain the R I state senior trophy. Junior corps also won the state title and several individual honors while Warren Indian Band claimed out of state junior honors. The Bristol Vet Corps placed second overall with 285 78 aggregate. A victory parade and celebration planned in Bristol.
Police say the New Highland Casino faced a break in between 12:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday but no money was stolen as owners had removed funds Sunday. Entry was via kitchen window and a door opened by a saw, with a safe door blown. Previous incidents include a $900 embezzlement and two prior robberies with whiskey and cash taken.
The Congregational Church marks the eighth World Wide Communion with an 11 am Sunday service. Members are asked to bring food packages for missionary work in India or China. the event starts Saturday 6 pm in Wellington New Zealand and spreads across time zones as the day progresses.
Fred Lopes chairs the agricultural students social on Homecoming Day at Rhode Island State College Lip pitt hall campus. Eight coeds compete for Queen of the Aggie Bowl as dancing runs from 8 to 12 with the queen chosen at 11. A football game pits RI State against the University of New Hampshire at Meade Field at 2.
Two Bristol graduates from the Class of 1942 undefeated team turned pro this season with the Fall River Lions in the New England Professional Football Conference. In New Haven they started as ends Frank Puniello and full back Jimmy Sousa for a Lions win over the New Haven Colony Club. They are expected to start again this Sunday when Providence hosts the Lions.
About 175 persons attended the first in a series of old fashioned barn dances for adults at St Marys church auditorium Friday. Frank Fenner of Swansea was the prompter. Arrangements were by the three church societies: St Marys Mothers Club, St Marys Social Club, and Holy Name Society.
About 40 members attended the Col lins and Aikman Girls Club 20th annual banquet at the White Rail Riding Club Saturday night. Albert T. Fusonie spoke after introduction by Miss Anne Borges. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Manning Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Parks Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fusonie and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murgo.
The Blue Cross Direct Enrollment Campaign begins with non-group enrollment and no age limit for two weeks. John J. Donilon of Cranston becomes the first new subscriber as the plan expands coverage to those over 65. Drug stores will supply forms. rates include Single 8.10 semi annual and Family 8.25 quarterly with benefits covering hospital rooms and care at 17 member hospitals in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.
A reception is held tonight in the chapel rooms of Trinity Church at 8 o clock to honor Rev. Thomas E Little on his new rector post. The event also serves as a farewell testimonial to Rev. J Philip Beecham after ten years of service. Members and friends are invited to attend.
An unofficial Brooklyn Dodgers Band caused a lively scene at a late-season game in Boston against the Braves. Leader Jack Larice conducts a ragtag group described as peace-busters with a circuslike appearance, aimed at boosting morale for the World Series run.
Jack, known as Shorty, fears his band’s louder, harsher sound. Once a noisy herd, the trombonist and trumpeter now play better, causing complaints from fans about lack of toned music. He urges the group to drop ideas of becoming musical prima donnas.
A Brooklyn crowd recalled Jojo the midget mascot dancing with Jojo the performer on the roof of the Brooklyn dugout. Jojo weighed 40 pounds when he joined Shorty’s aggregation, delighting fans, but by Saturday he weighed 120 pounds, prompting talk of a diet.
Halfway through the game the six volunteers stage a second parade marching from the first-base to the third-base line. Trumpets blare baton waves as they perform to band music, winning crowd cheers and urging greater effort. The jitterbug number is a knockout.
