Community Halloween party plans announced in Bristol

The third annual Community Hallowe en Celebration will be sponsored by Kearney Post No 6 American Legion and the Rotary Club with Miss Muriel Ashton as general chairwoman. A youth party will be hosted at the Y M C A while the younger group meets at the Armory. Police Chief Ferrara praised the plan saying it reduces vandalism and provides safe fun for children.

Change in Bay View Avenue Contract Reduces Town Costs

A town council special session authorized changes to the Bay View Avenue project cutting net costs by about 400 dollars. The Romano Construction contract was adjusted to avoid blasting and reduce storm sewer work between Sherry and Thompson avenues. The plan adds asphalt shoulders and gutters, with disposal of 88 feet of 21 inch drain pipe.

Buffums to Mark 60th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Joseph L Buffum celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Monday September 29 at home 5 Milk street. They will receive friends in the afternoon. It is also Mrs Buffum's 79th birthday. Mr Buffum is 86 and visiting on Byfield street helping his brother Henry build a home.

Warren seeks clinching win in Little Worlds Series game three

The third game of the Little Worlds Series between Bristol and Warren is set for Sunday afternoon at Guneral Field. Warren leads 2-0 after two wins and needs one more victory to clinch the best out of five.

Religious Education Classes Start September 30

Edward Fitzgerald the superintendent announced that religious education classes begin on September 30. Participating churches include First Congregational St Elizabeths St Marys St Michaels First Baptist and Our Lady of Mt Carmel.

Margaret Hibbert Becomes Graduate Nurse at Rhode Island School

Miss Margaret Hibbert daughter of Mr and Mrs George Hibbert of 240 Hope Street Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing Providence graduated on September 17 from Colt Memorial High School.

Sergeant Harold W Josephson Fatally Injured in Germany

Mrs Daniel F Mahoney of 87 High Street received word that her son Sergeant Harold W Josephson age 26, a WWII veteran and occupation forces member in Austria and Germany, died in Germany on September 22 1947 from a fractured skull and cerebral concussion. He served with the 1st Infantry during WWII in North Africa Sicily Italy and France and earned the Purple Heart and multiple campaign and service medals. Born Providence February 13 1921 he moved to Bristol as a youth and later studied at RI State College before enlisting in 1940. He is survived by his mother a brother Robert of New York and a half-brother Daniel F Mahoney Jr of Bristol. arrangements will be made to return the body.

Town President Opposes Janitors as Traffic Cops

Gilbert C. Hoover said janitors should not take over traffic policing near schools. He argued janitors are already busy and there are other reasons against this extra duty. The comment follows earlier calls by Norman E Benard for janitors to manage dismissal traffic.

Bristol Mayor Recieves Curious English Letter

The Bristol Rhode Island town council president Gilbert C Hoover opened a mailer from F. J. Dimond of Bristol England. The envelope addressed him as The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Bristol prompting jokes about his title and a tax assessor note.

Collins and Aikman Club Sends 170 Members to Washington

Drum Corps Championship Meet Set in Sturbridge Mass

Bristol Boy Scout Drum and Bugle Corps and Bristol Vets Drum and Bugle Corps will compete for U I State Championship honors at Sturbridge Fairgrounds on Sunday September 28 1947. Only Rhode Island Fife Drum and Bugle Association members may enter the state contest. out of state prizes are for nonmember corps. The Boy Scout Band has held the junior state title since 1939.
