Bruneau Etienne Receives Patent For Railroad Signal Device
Bruneau Etienne of Herreshoff Mfg Co has been granted letters patent for an electrical railroad safety signal. The device uses a third rail with insulation to alert the engineer within a mile, lights a red signal in the cab, and automatically cuts steam and applies air brakes to prevent collisions. Invented during Alaska mining years ago, the patent application followed last December and may reduce recent fatal rail accidents.

Portuguese women clash in district court battle
At the regular session Judge O L Bosworth presided yesterday morning over a case involving two Portuguese women Maria Pereira as defendant and Fannie Louzatha as plaintiff. The charge was assault. Interpreted testimony described a fight a week or 80 ago with Pereira armed with a scrub brush and Louzatha with a wooden shoe. Pereira was found guilty and fined five dollars plus costs.
