Bristol mourns Col Merton A Cheesman prominent civic leader. He died yesterday at Providence hospital from a heart attack after two years of poor health. Funeral at St Michael's Church Sunday at two with burial in North Cemetery. He held many local posts including Town Council School Committee Bristol Train of Artillery and Boy Scouts leadership. He served in various orders and clubs and was born September 1 1863 in England before moving to the United States. He leaves brothers Herbert L in Toronto and Ernest and sister Mrs John Graves in Kent England.

The American Red Cross Providence Chapter marks one year of War Relief Production in Providence with six thousand clothing items and 350 layettes. An open house is set for Wednesday September 25 from eleven to five thirty at 320 Olney Street inviting Bristol volunteers and others to inspect the production rooms and meet organizers.

Hat Corporation of America plans to use abundant amounts of synthetic wool from the Aratex plant in Norwalk to produce hats. The Bristol made fiber, improved over earlier Italian versions, resists disintegration and felts like natural wool. John Cavanaugh says a 10 percent mix will be used across all hat grades.
