District Governor Visits Bristol Rotary Club

Leland D Wood district governor of the 31st District spoke on world Rotary affairs at the Bristol Rotary Club’s supper and social. The event at St Michael's Parish House featured violin solos by Nicholas Pirri, dancing, cards, bowling, and a planned Halloween Ladies Night on October 28 with arrangements by F Reginald Dimond and others.

Petition Seeks Seven Directorships of Public Aid in Bristol

A Bristol petition signed by 162 citizens asks the Town Council to appoint seven committee members as Directors of Public Aid to handle expanded duties under state law. The request notes the August 10 resolution and lists Anthony R Parshley Manuel H Fernandez James J Walsh Gertrude M Hasbrouck Fred Williams Jr Elizabeth Gladding and Gerardo Cardola as proposed directors. Mrs Vasta Ruggeiro is already a director and is not named. The petition was filed with Town Clerk John W Church by Philip De Wolf and set for presentation at the October 6 council meeting.

Bible Class Supper At Baptist Church Well Attended

A bean and salads supper was served in the church vestry Wednesday at 6 pm under the Bible Class of the Baptist Church. Attendees hailed from Providence Warren and Bristol. The room was decorated with cut flowers. blessing was given by Rev. William Darby. The arrangements were led by Miss Dorin Bullock, Mrs Llewellyn Conklin, and Mrs George F. Luther.

Town Meeting Reconsiders August 10 Aid Resolution

Bristol taxpayers are called to meet Monday at 8 30 p m in the Town Hall to repeal rescind and annul the Aug 10 resolution that authorized 15 000 for public aid and set a committee to oversee its disbursement The meeting may also address re appropriation and committee duties under state law and public aid powers by the Director of Public Aid

State Street M E Church To Observe Two Anniversaries Next Week

State Street Methodist Episcopal Church plans two observances next week marking the 140th year of the church history and the 75th anniversary of the current edifice. Rev Lyman Horton of Fair Haven Mass will preach at the Sunday morning service and Rev Walliam C Darby will give an historical sketch at the Sunday evening service. A reunion church supper Tuesday will close the observances with former pastors expected to attend and speak.

Director of Public Aid Defends Fairness of Relief Orders

Mrs. Vasta LaR Ruggeiro publishes a reply to criticism claiming wider distribution of relief purchases. She states 105 merchants are used, 120 families aided with 56 Portuguese and 41 Italian recipients, and pledges monthly open reports to Town Council. She asserts no partiality and notes criticism has spurred continued effort.
