Bristol to host Lt Bulkeley Monday for War Bond rallies

Lieut John D Bulkeley famed for rescuing General MacArthur will speak at three Bristol events on Monday. He will address crowds at Collins & Aikman, Herreshoff Mfg, and a large War Bond rally in Rockwell Park in support of war production and bond sales. Local leaders predict his visit will boost morale and bond purchases.

Former Bristol Boy Becomes Aerial Gunner In U S Army

Mel D Archangelo once of Bristol now lives in Portland Maine and has graduated from Harlingen Army gunners school to become an aerial gunner. A former ace pitcher at Portland High and MICT he starred as end in football and was a strong place kicker. He will undergo training and may join a tactical unit to operate a machinegun on moving targets.

Brother of Mrs Kinder Reported Lost in Action

Mrs Ralph F Kinder learns Sunday of her brother Lieut Comdr Cleveland Dale Miller being reported lost in action. Miller, former Providence resident, attended Moses Brown School and Marion Institute, graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1929. He leaves a wife and one child, his mother, and a sister Mrs Kinder, plus a brother Herbert C Miller Jr of New York.

Volunteers Needed For Local Observation Post

Bristol volunteers are urged to join the Aircraft Spotter post, offering 3 hours weekly, 16 or older. Observers monitor aircraft within sight distance, report to the Army operator in Boston, and earn armband rewards and chevrons for hours served.

Boys Paint Bleachers At Guiteras Field For School

Supt Mapes and Vincent Saviano organized YMCA boys led by Carmine Cirillo to paint Guiteras Field bleachers. The project provided work and experience. the committee praised the result as the best yet. Also, school plans approved include Evening Schools starting Oct 8 with sessions four nights weekly, staff appointments, and funding steps. Last Rites For Gen Callan Draw Large Crowd At St Marys

Hundreds from diverse walks attended the funeral of Brigadier General Luke H Callan at St Marys Church and KeArney Post ceremonies. The service featured a full military honors escort from the Rhode Island State Guard, a graveyard volley, taps, and numerous state officials, veterans groups, and clergy in attendance.
