New Doctor From Azores Plans Bristol Practice
Dr Paul Botelho native of St Miguel Azores will open his office at 72 Constitution Street on Sept 22 occupying the former Conti home. A senior resident at Charles V Chapin Hospital he trained at Roger Williams Hospital after arriving from Portugal and is a Lisbon graduate. His uncle Joseph Botelho lives here and helped him come to this country. Dr John O Squillante plans Bristol practice Oct 1 residing at Wardwell House 509 Hope Street. He practiced in Barrington four years and he and his wife are summer residents. they are parents of five children with four boys and a girl.

Three Cafes Suspected in Liquor Violations and Suspensions
Three Newport cafes faced license suspensions after a five hour Wednesday hearing by the town council. The Prudence Cafe 225 Thames Street Everett T. Francis Longhorn Cafe 25 State Street John Marinho and the Golden Nuggett 171 Bradford Street Joseph F. Benevides were closed for three two and four days respectively with starts at 6 am yesterday. Longhorn reopened under a stay of suspension ordered by state liquor administrator Charles F Reynolds following an appeal. Testimony centered on three sailors from Newport who said they were served liquor at the three cafes while underage. The council charged Prudence with serving Wendell Davis 19 William Blackburn 20 and John Mitchler Jr 18 on July 4 and Aug 19. Longhorn was charged with serving Blackburn and Mitchler and allowing Davis to drink on premises. Golden Nugget was charged with serving Davis on Aug 19. Officers and bartenders testified as did Patrolman Balzano who described fights near the Prudence. Francis said he instructs bartenders daily on not serving minors and asks for ID when a person looks underage. The hearing continues with another liquor administrator decision.

Coro Inc. leases a substantial floor area at the former C and A Plant from Bristol Development Co. in Providence. About 100 workers will be hired for the new branch with ads calling for binders linkers gluers and foot press operators on full or part time, days or evenings. Applications run Monday and Tuesday at Coro 167 Point Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The deal, the largest tenant yet, followed nine months after the plant’s purchase.

Little League Seeks Jimmy Fund Support September 18

B M C Voting Today On Strike
Bristol Manufacturing Corp employees are voting by secret ballot at Lincoln Hall to decide if a strike is authorized. Local 220 president Tindaro Maiorano notes the union sought a 12 cent hourly raise, higher shift premiums, a pension program and other fringe benefits as about 100 contract changes were proposed. the current contract ends October 20.
