Crucial Middle School Vote Planned for Sept. 8 in Bristol
Taxpayers will vote at 9 am to 9 pm in the Bristol High School auditorium on Chestnut St for a $250,000 bond to fund architectural plans and land purchase for a proposed 1000 pupil middle school. The measure follows a July town meeting where 300 residents approved a planning bond and building committee. The school board says a new middle school will avert double sessions within two years as enrollment climbs, with estimates showing over 800 students beyond normal capacity by 1973. Leaders say tax impacts are necessary to secure future education and attract residents, while opponents fear costs. Polls open 9 am and close 9 pm. failure could prompt another town meeting.
