Many New Homes Being Constructed In Town

Construction activity rises with numerous new dwellings, especially bungalows, under way along Bristol Neck and Ferncliffe. A one family bungalow to be built at Ferncliffe will have five rooms on the first floor and two on the second, heated by steam with modern fittings. A two family house for Manuel Cabral Mello is progressing near Bourneville, and a new garage by George L. Thompson stands south of Ferncliffe. A new Colonial residence for Mrs Celina Dubuc rises along Main road, while a two family bungalow near Joseph Connell nears completion. The Lafayette House and Reynolds Homestead gain fresh updates, with John H Wall purchasing adjacent lands for improvements. South end dwellings on Walles Street enlarge Mrs Eleanor B Rockwell’s home, with new excavations for another house nearby.

Schools Open for Fall Term Tomorrow

Public schools and St Marys parochial school start the fall term at 9 o clock with many new enrollees. Over 200 vaccination orders issued by Superintendent Hobbs. some absentees may attend later in the week. Colt Memorial High School gains new Principal Elmer S Mapes from Thomaston Conn. Douglas Faton becomes science and math teacher at Colt High, replacing Frank H Rhuland. Repairs and improvements completed across district schools.

Friday Night Fires Strain City Laddies Across Districts

Two alarm fires kept fire crews busy Friday evening in Districts 14 and 16. A dump fire on Thames street was quickly extinguished, while a blaze in the Mt Hope Block on Hope street drew hundreds of spectators. At about ten o'clock James J Garvin spotted smoke from Talbot Hopkins store and found an overheated motor caused the heavy smoke. shutting off power stopped further danger.

Annual Outings Bring Fire Laddies Clubclam Bake at Mt Hope Bay

Three town fire companies Hydraulion Dreadnaught and Defiance held their annual outing at Ferrycliffe Farm Mt Hope Bay on Sunday with 125 members and guests including Town Council and Board of Engineers. A chowder meal at 1 30 pm preceded sports such as wrestling tug of war wheelbarrow races pipe races and foot races with prizes awarded. Outing of National India Rubber workers at Thayer estate

The motor vehicle operators and garage employees of the National India Rubber Company held a Sunday outing on former Senator Willam H Thayer’s grounds near the Kirkemuit River. About thirty attended a clam bake prepared by John F Reed with foot races and a baseball game before a late afternoon dinner.

Fifth District Court Hears Friday Street Revelry Fines

In a special session, Percy Holmes and Henry Archer were fined five dollars plus costs for reveling on State street Friday night. Harry J. McFall, accused by his wife Victoria of neglect, was placed on probation for one month and must pay eight dollars weekly for wife and child support.

Moonlight Excursion Supports Local Athletic Club

The Principessa Elena Society excursion to Rocky Point on Friday evening drew nearly one hundred participants. Attendees enjoyed the resort attractions and proceeds will benefit the Whirlwinds Athletic Club.
