Money On Tap Plentiful In Bristol County
A government FDIC survey shows Bristol County deposits at 72 million dollars at the close of fiscal year 1968, up from 62.5 million two years earlier. Checking accounts total nearly 10 million, savings and time deposits about 60.4 million, with interbank and government accounts making up the rest. The report ties the cash surge to Federal Reserve credit restrictions to curb inflation, plus private cash holdings. Nationally, bank deposits across all commercial and mutual savings banks exceed 464 billion dollars, up from 398 billion in 1966.
