Attorney General Charles P. Sisson presided over a Sunday Republican rally in Columbia Hall attended by several hundred, many of Portuguese extraction. Speakers touted Hoover, Metcalf, Hammill, de Rocha, Vasconcellos, and Goulart, urging full Republican ticket support and noting state road progress and the Mt Hope Bridge.

Chorus Rehearsal for Bristol Festival Draws Readers

The Bristol County Festival Chorus grows with rehearsals tomorrow at the John Post Reynolds School auditorium. Nearly 40 members are enrolled including 31 women from Bristol Warren Barrington West Barrington and others, under conductor John B. Archer.

A Friday afternoon meeting of the nomination committee discussed potential officers for the proposed Chamber of Commerce. Several names were proposed and reports on nominee acceptances will be presented at a later meeting this week.

Moonshine Plant Found Behind Thames Street Dwelling

A moonshine still was found operating in an unoccupied dwelling near Thames Street in the harbor area Sunday. Police seized 13 barrels of mash, a complete distilling outfit, and 10 gallons of moonshine, with much of the equipment on the second floor and a man’s old felt hat used as a filter. No arrests were reported yet as investigators locate the operator.

Bristol Football Triumph Over Apponaugh Tractors for Fourth Win

Bristol defeats Apponaugh Tractors of Warwick 19 to 6 to notch its fourth victory of the season. Pewee Mortenson scored two touchdowns and a third by Lesseur with Head’s forward pass setting up several scores. Colwell of the Tractors scored their lone touchdown on an 80 yard run.

Babbitt W R C Holds Annual Inspection

The Babbitt Women's Relief Corps held its annual inspection last Friday evening with department officers present. A chowder supper preceded the ritual work. Department inspector Mrs. Annie Reynolds of Pawtucket praised color bearers and officers for fine exemplification and corps condition, followed by social time with music readings and remarks.

Bail Bond Defaulted And Gapins Issued In Larceny Case

In the Fifth District Court session Judge Hamill ordered a capias for Manuel Cabral of 213 Franklin street after he failed to appear for larceny of 24 boxes of cigarettes from Newport Tobacco Co. Sept 27. Bond on the recognizance was defaulted. Bondsman Antonio de C. Carvalho had sought Cabral. John Valante pleaded guilty to operating an unlicensed automobile on Wood street and was fined $15 plus costs. Two drunkenness cases were fined $2 and costs each. Antonio Medeiros pleaded guilty to vagrancy and was sentenced to six months at the State Reformatory for men.

Store Keeper Sentenced On Third Liquor Offence

Joseph Campanello, a 219 Wood Street store keeper, was jailed for three months and fined 500 dollars by Judge Ira Lloyd Letts in the United States District Court for a third liquor possession offence. A prior first offence had carried a $10 fine for possessing home brew equipment. the manufacturing charge was not pursued.

Young Men's Forum Plans Future Work At YMCA

A meeting of young men interested in a general topics forum was held Friday evening in YMCA rooms. Arthur Schroeder of Brown University Christian Association attended with fourteen participants. Schroeder will lead future meetings as plans and benefits of the organization are discussed. The next session will elect officers.
