With the final campaign week under way, a large Democratic rally will be held Thursday night in Reynolds School Auditorium Bristol. Sgt. Peter Cavalier of Bristol Rhode Island and Chief Bill Hawkins of Syracuse New York left desk duty for recruiting posts in Fall River and Newport then learned they would serve in Iceland. Cavalier, reactivated with the 278th Regimental Combat Team, joins infantry duty while Hawkins, amused by the turn, ends up attached to Navy patrol bombers.
Bristol budget commissioner Frank L. Doran issues a formal statement urging approval of the Home Rule charter at the November 4 election. He argues it modernizes self government, counters patronage concerns, and emphasizes clear language and expert review. He urges voters who misunderstand the charter to read and decide based on its merits.

Donations accepted November 7 9 am to 4 pm and sale runs same hours November 8. 20 percent of proceeds go to PTA and the rest to the ar ch owner. Clothing ranges from infant to 18 years with new shoes accepted only.
Norman J. Vermette a Republican candidate for state representative says the Home Rule issue should be decided by voters and not influenced by parties. He notes Charles B. Rockwell and the Citizens' Charter League support non political charter adoption and that legislators cannot interfere with local government beyond a personal vote.
With one week until the November 4 elections the Bristol Home Rule plan is struggling as most officeholders and candidates remain silent. Only a few public figures openly support or oppose the charter while questions about Capone's stance and attacks on the measure persist amid concerns over debt and legality.
