Central heating in 33.4 percent of homes, hot water in 48.1 percent, and 81.7 percent with mechanical refrigeration. Bristol houses 10,270 people in 2,943 homes, average 3.2 per dwelling.
The Rhode Island Colts face the U.S.S. Vulcan at McCoy Stadium Pawtucket Sunday in a charity football game for the Patnaude Fund. Colts coach Jerry Zeoli leads a roster featuring Ron Florio Leo Palizza Teddy Wright and Bob Sullivan. Vulcan stars include Charley Hummer and Bill Orsberg. A brief ceremony precedes kickoff and Jamestown Girls Band will perform.

Col ins and Aikman Corp has been named vice president and general manager of LaFrance Industries Ontario Canada He will start November 1 and move his family from Bristol to Canada He is a Philadelphia native educated at Philadelphia Textile School and the University of Pennsylvania and has lived in Bristol 12 years He was most recently sales engineer with the Marinecraft Co of Whitman Massachusetts.
Beauty and grace framed a Bristol Women's Republican Club fashion show at Colt Memorial High School auditorium. Arline Booth of Fall River modeled gowns and suits while Mrs. William L. Coggeshall directed the program. Prizes were awarded by George H. Lamb and Rowland I. Stanley. door prize went to Mrs. Daniel K. Davis.
A Bristol Town Council proclamation designates the week of October 27 as Community Concert Week. Campaign kickoff dinner at Forest Art features Gerald Devlin presenting Columbia artists films. A doubled volunteer corps and prize chair Joseph Frey bolster plans for concerts and member renewals.
Construction started yesterday on the Bristol Ground Observer post at Min Farm off Metacom Avenue to house 73 Bristol Corps members. At least 14 will be honored Tuesday night at a Civil Defense mass meeting in Reynolds Auditorium where Air Force officials will award silver GOC wings. Brig Gen James A Murphy Maj Harry Symmonds Capt Paul A Herzig and Wilfred F Tetreault are listed among speakers with broad local agency representation expected.
Town Councilman Henry F. Serbst publicly endorses the Home Rule charter, the first Bristol officeholder to do so. In a letter to Citizens' Charter League chair Charles Rockwell, he urges voters to approve on November 4 and notes possible changes by ordinance or referendum after passage.
Russell W. Southwick announced the Bristol Red Feather drive has raised 17315 toward a 19300 quota for Community Chest. To meet the end date of October 31 an average of 400 daily is needed as campaign workers remain confident Bristol leads the state in quota attainment. Southwick praised donors volunteers police and school departments the Bristol Rangers and Women’s Club for support and refreshments on Feather Day.
