First Aid Course to Begin November 7 in Bristol

The Bristol Branch of the American Red Cross announces a five week first aid course. Sponsored by Vincent M. Securo the course starts Tuesday November 7 with two hour sessions each Tuesday at Colt Memorial High School. Open to all interested and industrial personnel may receive certificates upon completion. Community Fund Drive progress reports mixed results

Nathan Eisenstadt reported the campaign had raised 11 400 dollars, 48 percent of the 23 650 dollar goal, with divisions including residential led by Jes Newman and business led by E Goulart. Captains and workers aim to reach 3 850 in their division, while organizers stress donating to all six agencies supported by the drive. The Community Fund drive continues through November 12 with a townwide effort and a committee meeting set at the YMCA.

Testimonial Dinner for Francis N Perry New St Director

John L. Rego will serve as toastmaster at a testimonial dinner for Francis N Perry, his successor as director. The event is set for Sunday Nov 19 at the White Coach Restaurant with Frank J Mise randino as chair and a committee including Joseph F Pannone Anthony Campagna Richard J Sylvia Ralph H Lavers Manuel A Sousa Anthony J Bruno and Al Morra. Campagna Named Bristol Kaiser Aluminum Plant Controller

Thomas Campagna is appointed plant controller of the Kaiser Aluminum Bristol plant in an announcement by J DG Murphy Bristol operations manager. A Brown University graduate he joined the local plant in 1942 and has been assistant controller since 1957. His father Antonio Campagna worked in the plant 33 years before retiring.

Rate Increase Announced by Bristol Nursing Association

The Bristol District Nursing Association announced a rate increase effective November 1. House visits will cost $2 and office visits $1.25. The association relies on the Bristol Community Fund and town appropriations, and this is the first rate rise in many years due to higher medical supply costs and to align with Bristol area rates.

Council Gets Good News on State of Town Debt

Town Treasurer Reynolds G Northup reported Bristol has a very low indebtedness ratio. Last year 113,875.40 paid on bonds and notes, 45,000 added, total outstanding 584,700 against taxable valuation 49,186,465 as of Dec 31 1959. Revenue from overlooked accounts 22,354.55 helped cut the 1960 61 operating deficit to 1,393.32, a drop from 13,077.87 prior year and 50,877.99 in 1958 59. Council also extended Dixon Corp lease option to April 1 1962 with fee 250. Zoning Board changes approved. Other motions include buying 20 shares Bristol County Water for Davis Wilson Account and appointing local ration committee officers. New special constable Fred Green. DeFelice Florists authorized to install a 2,000 gallon fuel oil tank. Further action on a pending request.

Fastest Gun Contestants To Be on Stage

Anthony R Berretto Raymond Faria and Paul Murphy are the three candidates in the Fastest Gun contest to appear on stage in The Follies of 761 next week on Nov 2 3 and 4. The contest runs with the Follies with a $50 Savings Bond prize to be awarded by the Jr Women's Club and the Bristol Jaycees. Voting costs a penny per ballot and is active townwide. One contestant Mr Murphy plans a parade to boost his campaign. Ballot boxes are moved between locations to aid voters.
