Bristol High reunion brings together Class of 84 with 83 and 85

Three Bristol High School classes held a reunion at Miss John C Drury's home on High Street. Distinguished guests included Bishop Louis C Sanford of San Joaquin California and retired Navy civil engineer Captain Ernest H Brownell. Seventeen attendees shared reminiscences after supper by the fire.

Beta Sigma Society Halloween Party Planned at Trinity Church

Charter Presented to Bristol United Shoe and Leather Union

Local No. 74 of the United Shoe and Leather Workers Union received its charter at a Columbia Hall ceremony on Wood Street attended by about 100 members. George A. Wilson presented the charter and urged expansion to all area shoe workers, noting right to organize. Older members recalled 1920 strikes and Factory Council relations while younger members favored the union.

Filling Station Robbed in Bristol Also Stolen Goods Reported

Bristol police investigated a break in at the Hope Street filling station owned by Joseph F Sousa Jr. The thief gained entry by breaking a south side window and releasing a lock. Missing items include four attendants uniforms two boxes of cigars twenty two cigarette cartons tobacco gum headlight bulbs candy and a .42 caliber automatic revolver. Patrolman William T Cashin led the inquiry.

New England Shoe Co plans Halloween observance in town hall

Officials and employees of the New England Shoe Company plan a Halloween dance on October 31 in a large town hall. The event will feature general dancing and an entertainment program with a committee led by Domenic De Martino and names listed for subcommittees, tickets, decorations, and refreshments.

After a tour, the Bristol Y M C A board noted refreshed appearance in the gym and renovated bowling alleys and baths. Secretary Hobson announced gym classes for Business Men, Young Men, and Juniors with schedules and leaders including Hobson, John Marshall, and John O Connor.

Crippled Youth Receives Wheelchair From Lions Club

Stephen Bystry a 14 year old infantile paralysis victim, received a donated wheelchair at a Bristol Lions Club meeting after Norman F. Benard organized the fundraising with the help of the Bristol community. Letters from Stephen and supporters express deep gratitude for the chair and the kindness shown.

Sewage Disposal Plant 45 Percent Complete

The monthly progress report shows the new sewage disposal plant is 45 percent finished as of October 15. Secretary William T. Dwyer says when half finished the town can apply for half of the federal funds, reducing bond sales. Cement digester walls are done, clarifying tanks nearly finished, control house brick walls to start soon.

Scientific Crime Determination Topic At Rotary Club

Wallace Bohrer toxicologist and criminology expert spoke to the Rotary Club on modern crime detection methods. He highlighted the microscope black light wax impressions and the spectroscope and demonstrated the nitrate test for gunshot residue. Acting Police Chief Ferrara attended and Arthur Byone was welcomed as a new member.

K of C Meeting Sees Bingo Plans In Bristol

Rev Thomas J Gillan and Rev Lawrence Deery spoke to Bristol Council No 379 at the State street headquarters. A committee including James McKenna and others set up two bingo events for Friday Nov 9 and Monday Nov 26 with a turkey bingo. New officers to be installed next month. Refreshments were served after the meeting.

Hope Circle No 70 Daughters of Isabella announces the first annual Hope Frolic to be held Monday evening November 5 at Grand Army Hall.
