Phoenix appeal seeks volunteers to lead Girl Scouts

An editorial in the Phoenix urged women with a free afternoon to volunteer as leaders for Girl Scout troops. Only two townspeople answered. Bristol Rangers Win Top Prize In Providence

The Bristol Rangers Bugle and Drum Corps topped the Knights of Columbus parade in Providence on Columbus Day weekend, selected as the most outstanding marching and musical unit after judges at three stands. The Bristol group led the parade late in the line, braving chill and drizzle as they outperformed other service and school bands.

Patriotic Education Week Display At Local Bookshop

Two Chil of the American Revolution societies mark Patriotic Education Week with a window display at Hopkins and King 302 Hope St. The exhibit features a facsimile Declaration of Independence, a portrait of George Washington, a depiction of Old Ironsides, and a golden eagle loaned by Mr and Mrs August E Gibbemeyer. The display connects to ancestors of signers and patriots, organized by Gov William Bradford Society led by Sara Lynn Paul and nominations, with help from Abraham Whipple Society members under Mrs John Cornman.

Liquor and Food License Cooperation Ordered by Health Official

Health Officer Dr. C Paul Bruno urged stricter cooperation from liquor and eating establishment licensees. Licenses will not be renewed without passing health inspections and ensuring all staff have health cards. Sanitation officer Nicholas Mancieri cited 37 liquor outlets and 4 eating establishments lacking health cards.

Industries Invited To Attend Health Session

Health Officer Dr C Paul Bruno invites leaders from 19 local industrial concerns to a Thursday night meeting in Burnside Memorial Building council chambers at 815. The session launches the Industrial Health Program with talks on basic health principles and disaster preparedness by Nelson Beals.

Two Boards To Hold Joint Meeting On Zoning Revisions

Local leaders from the zoning and planning boards along with a RIDC Development Council representative agreed to meet jointly to revise the zoning ordinance and map. Ralph H Lavers announced the plan after weekend talks with D Russell S Bray and John from the Development Council. Some members had misgivings about separate sessions but public comment favored joint sessions to address the common zoning issue.
