Scrap pile grows as 44 tons added to 201-ton total
Ian M. Walker, chairman of the Salvage Committee, announced last evening that approximately 44 tons of scrap metal have been added to the 201 tons already collected in town. Most new metal came from retail stores on Wednesday and heavy pieces from Sunday's collection were gathered. Four fences donated were taken down by junk dealer N. Meyer Paley, who is buying the metal. Walker says much salvage remains on farms and urged residents to turn in scrap. A Salvage Committee meeting is set for Friday at 7 30 to plan further periodic collections.
