Greenport Long Island plans a Rainbow Day with a parade, entertainment, and banquet to honor Capt George H. Monsell and his Rainbow crew. Mayor Ansel V. Young will present tokens to each crew member as the town celebrates their role in defending the America’s Cup.
Hon James G Connolly Rhode Island Law Revision Commissioner will serve as toastmaster at a Bristol County Callan testimonial banquet at Hotel Warren 8 pm Monday The event honors a Bristol County native with Barrington and lists numerous local attendees including Michele Cicerchia Sr Michele Cicerchia Jr John R Ruggieri William Ciallella Peter A Del Pozzi Frank Ciallella Joseph Piccirilli plus many delegates and community members.
Attendance is expected to be about 400 at a Republican event honoring Gen Callan. Toastmaster will introduce speakers including Mrs Paul Fitz simons National Republican Committeewoman Hon Jesse H Metcalf and Senator Felix Hebert plus candidates John C Casseboom for Congress First District and L H Callan for Governor. Officers include Chairman Bertram W Wall Vice Chairman Henry O Paquin Treasurer Rex Lawin and Secretary P Oliver. Representatives from various towns were listed.
Two whist parties and a bingo event featured Bristol social activity this week. The Bristol Girl Scout Council hosted a large bingo in the MIC A building with prizes to winners and refreshments by the committee led by Mrs Harry Tuplin. Mrs Earl Hobson Mrs Fo M Dixon Jr and Mrs Jo Floyd Huestis assisted. The Mothers Club of St Marys Church held a whist afternoon in the church auditorium with twenty tables and prizes for Mrs George Marz Miss Helen Barnes Mrs John Donahue Mrs Otis Bailes and Mrs Art Angelo. Refreshments were served by hostesses Mrs John Connors Mrs Arthur Conlan Mrs James Toplin and Mrs William Hammill. The Ever Ready’s held a social with 22 tables and prize winners including Arthur Lewis Catherine Proto George McMillan Al Ethier Joseph Williams and Joseph Pinhero. John Fzikovich chaired the committee with D J Langello as secretary treasurer.
Large turnout expected tonight as Bristol Colt High alumni from across the state gather for the harvest dance in Colt auditorium. The event raises funds for educational and athletic activities with Larry Gadsby orchestra providing music.
The Bristol County Nurses Club held its annual election at the Rockwell House. Mrs Mary B Sanford and Mrs Helen Dameison were re elected president and secretary, with Mrs Leda Blount of Warren as treasurer. Public health nurses from Bristol Warren Barrington and East Providence attended. A supper followed at 5 30 and a discussion on public health matters. The group voted to hold the next meeting November 15 at the Warren District Nurses headquarters.
The Town Council, on Judge Leahy’s recommendation, postponed Police Chief Kavanaugh’s hearing to Monday night at 7:30 and extended his suspension until then. Kiernan said the Superior Court case could be ready to trial at a moment’s notice, and Leahy urged the delay as fair and proper.
Arthur W Henius of Providence director of the Better Housing Campaign in Rhode Island spoke at Colt Memorial High School this noon. He outlined aims using a Visomatic screen, introduced by campaign chairman Frank L. Doran.
Bristol County Council of Religious Education presents a fall and winter series at Warren Baptist Church led by Rev Bernard Iddings Bell. The lectures explore social issues through a religious lens with the first talk scheduled for Thursday October 25.
Stephen W Hopkins, a Bristol School Committee former member and local contractor, replaces Alexander G Fales on the Republican ticket for the State Senatorship. The Bristol field will include Byrnes as Democrat and Lavey as Independent in a three way race. Hopkins filed with the Secretary of State just before the deadline.
Republican General Assembly Senator Stephen W. Hopkins and Representatives James J. Lanzire of the First District and John R. Magee of the Second District are listed in the official roster.

Bristol to launch a house to house canvass Monday under the Better Housing Campaign. Frank L. Doran announces six ERA canvassers will visit every home and business, distributing information booklets and display cards. The Bristol Committee on Better Housing directs the effort, with headquarters at Belvidere Hotel and members led by Doran.
Thomas B Lavey, Bristol Senate candidate on an Independent ticket, announces a Friday rally at Columbia Hall Wood Street and an additional outside rally within two weeks. Several out-of-town speakers will attend both events.
