School Board Sets Dental Clinic Focus for Young Pupils

The School Committee voted to limit the school dental clinic to first three grades with exams for higher grades by medical inspectors. Local dentists agreed to lower rates for low income families, while parents will be notified of needed work.

Voting Machines Available To Public In Bristol County

Voting machines for public practice are installed at Bristol County Court House under Joseph P Quartaro and Eugene Boone Jr. supervised by the State Board of Elections for two weeks. They operate weekday afternoons from 3 to 9 PM, excluding Saturdays and Sundays, and use new latches that voters engage themselves before entering the machine.

Republicans Plan Rally For Sunday October 20

Local Republicans schedule a rally at Poli Hall on State Street Sunday afternoon at 3 30 o clock. Philip Willkie May Attend Helen Church Testimonial

A Bristol County Willkie Club hosted testimonial at Guiteras Auditorium for Helen Church co writer of the Willkie campaign song. Admission is by ticket from Willkie headquarters. Philip Willkie may attend, with Hogey Carmichael and Mrs Martha Baird Allen among guests from New York and Boston. Six local ushers in Willkie costumes assist. seats open first come first served after 8 pm. tickets not needed after 8:10.

Bristol and Warren Rotary Clubs plan a joint Ladies Night at Hotel Warren tomorrow at 6 30 pm. Men 21 35 urged to register for selective service

Between ages 21 and 35 must register tomorrow at Bristol County Court House or Reynolds School depending on district. Registration runs 7 AM to 9 PM with heavy penalties for noncompliance. Town Clerk John W. Church leads a large volunteer corps in Bristol. Five to six minutes expected to complete the form.

D A R Observes 50th Anniversary in Bristol Chapter

Bristol Chapter of the D A R marked the Golden Jubilee with a ceremony at the Chapter House. State Regent Mrs John T Gardner and other officials attended. A flag pole dedication at the Barracks House followed, with readings on local Revolutionary War history and remarks on preservation by Bristol chapter historian Mrs Clifford M Wilson.

Board appoints Bristol County panel for Selective Service

Governor William H Vanderbilt announced a Bristol County panel to administer the Selective Service Act in Rhode Island. Members include Elmer Shorton of Barrington James C. Ruggiere of Bristol and John M. Soucha of Warren. Examining physician is Dr Marcius H Merchant with additional physicians Dr William L Serbst and Dr John A Mellone. Government appeal agent is Lester S Walling of Barrington.

Mariners Hold Meeting After Ship Refit

The Girl Scout Mariner Ship Vigilant exited dry-dock last Wednesday at 7 30 pm. The crew reported to Skipper Mrs Harold C Peckham and First Mate Miss Jessie Sanford. This year's course was mapped and departing crew members are urged to join tomorrow evening.

Voters Approve Additional Ten Thousand Dollars for Relief

At Reynolds School a special town meeting approved a further $10,000 for relief expenditures. Attendance was sparse with a quorum of 15 reached as some voters were recalled from the street. Moderator W Fred Williams adjourned after about fifteen minutes with twenty voters present. Joseph Riccio urged joint planning by the Council Planning Board and Appraisal Committee to aid the local industrial situation. Council President J Floyd Huestis noted those boards had met and a report would come within two weeks.

Alumni Show by St Marys Alumni Association

The St Marys Alumni Association presents a Sunday evening amateur show in the St Marys Church auditorium at 8 oclock. Chairlady Regina Farley and master of ceremonies Russell Gray lead 16 acts featuring the National Boy Scout Champs and the Bristol Boy Scout Drum and Bugle Corps with selections by John Duffy. Board of governors met at Augustine Nerone’s home on Prospect Street to plan the event.

Scout Drum Corps Wins More Laurels

The Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps closed a brilliant outdoor season with five more prizes. They won first in junior playing class 94.36 and best appearing drum corps 98.50 at New Bedford Mass in the Franco American La Legion convention. Norman Rene won best junior drum major 99.50.
