Kearney Post Forms 1948 Membership Drive

The American Legion Kearney Post No 6 officers and executive committee met to plan a two part 1948 membership drive for renewals and new members. The renewal drive starts November 16 with team assignments and territory duties and aims to reach a 311 member quota before year end. The post 1947 paid up membership was 284 and 357 in 1946.

Congregational Women Meet in Saylesville RI

The fall meeting of the Congregational Women of Rhode Island will be held at Saylesville Memorial Church October 16 from 10:30 to 3:30 with the theme The Field is the World. Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps held its annual meeting at the Kearns Post Home Franklin Street. Major General Barker to speak at Rotary event. Louis Almeida named corps advisor and George R Fish corps manager. Officers elected include Frank Fojo vice president Richard K Belmore secretary David Costa treasurer. Committeemen and guests attended, plans set for a 32 member corps and regular meetings.

Women's Guild names chairmen at Trinity Church meeting

At a Trinity Episcopal Church Women's Guild gathering on Wednesday evening, several committee chairmen were appointed. Appointments include Mrs Daniel Chase educational and devotional, Mrs Walter St Germain church periodicals and publicity, Miss Marion Blease United Bank custodian, and Mrs William MacPherson box supply. The guild planned sewing clothing for missions including Good Shepherd Hospital in Eastern Carolina, with hostesses Mrs John Grabert Mrs Chase Mrs Lawrence Cheetham and Mrs James Annable assisting.
