Ezra Dixon won the Republican nomination for Congress in the First District at Infantry Hall Providence defeating Guy Norman by 53 to 31 in a ballot vote. Wendell R. Davis chaired the convention and Judge F. H. Hammill spoke in Dixon's favor praising his Civil War service and rise from cotton mill worker to noted New England manufacturer.
