Nationwide Scrap Drive Co operates in Bristol

Bristol joins a nationwide scrap campaign led by Salvage Committee chairman Ian M Walker. A Sunday collection on October 7 will gather metals via 32 trucks with 35 high school helpers, meeting at Holmes Memorial Building.

Final Scrap Report Details June Bristol Collections

A final report to the Salvage Committee shows a net $203.76 from June scrap collections in Bristol. Iron 15 580 pounds $70 rubber 14 460 pounds $144.60 nonferrous metals 224 pounds $13.44. Expenditures total $24 28 leaving net receipts $203 76. The note includes a $5 award for meritorious work and a school donation from the PTA for rubber collection per pupil.

Italian Socialites Meet At Miss Salzaro Home

The Italian Socialites Women’s Club gathered at Miss Mary Salzaro’s home with Mrs Nancy Val liella presiding. A $100 fundraiser for the Bundles for Bristol bridges was planned by a committee including Miss Salzano Mrs Viarion Sousa and Miss Helen Paundine. Reise Correira was named Halloween party chairman. Next meeting set at Mrs Rese Correira’s home.

State Candidates Open Republican Campaign Here

The Bristol event labeled the opening gun of the campaign featured Governor hopeful James McManus and other state ticket candidates including Charles Eden and Hugo Clason. Speakers stressed victory in wartime politics and pledged to uphold Republican principles while criticizing Democratic policies and unfulfilled promises.

Memorial Planned For Brig Gen Luke H Callan

At Kearney Post No 6 American Legion meeting the Legion sponsors a memorial for Brig Gen Luke H Callan founder and first commander of the post. Knights of Columbus and Rotary Club each appoint a three member committee to plan the memorial with the post committee. A joint committee will authorize plans and funding. Armistice Day observance plans were also formed with Donat Jo Gladue Theron Doane Manuel Po Goulart Elmer McNamara and Fred M Straight. An audit committee was named and donations totaling 350, plus a 900 in war bonds, were noted as funds and pledges.

Evening Classes Open At Andrews School

The Andrews School opened evening classes with about 240 enrollees. Principal Miss Annie D. Sisson notes higher enrollment than last year and announces an Americanization class starting October 13 at seven o clock. No classes Monday due to Columbus Day.

New Choral Group Organizes Bristol Choral Society

A small group met at the YMCA to form the Bristol Choral Society. Twenty to thirty members will attend weekly Friday rehearsals at 845 PM with dues of 10 cents. Planned to give at least one public concert each year. Attendees included Hubert F Hill Vernon A Gray Calbraith Perry Mrs Frederick Sutciffe and Miss Marion Darling.
