October and November are designated Advancement Months for the First Bristol Troop of Boy Scouts of America. The plan aims to raise every scout at least one rank during these two months. Fire Prevention Week will be observed with a home and work safety program at Scout Hall next Monday evening. Each patrol will present a dramatization of fire prevention. New recruits will join and inactive scouts may be dropped. Troop Four last met in Scout Hall where several candidates earned tenderfoot and will be admitted at the next meeting. The Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps will hold a meeting and rehearsal next Wednesday at 7 pm in Scout Hall. Cubs from Pack No 14 meet next Wednesday October 17 at 6 30 pm in Scout Hall.
The War Shipping Administration resumes the prewar four year United States Merchant Marine Cadet Corps program. Wartime 7800 cadets reduced to 2500. Cadets spend one year at a school, one year at sea, and two years at Kings Point. Applications available from the US Merchant Marine Cadet Corps office in Washington DC.
