Four Fire Companies Meet Wednesday Night

Four volunteer fire companies held their monthly meetings Wednesday evening at their stations. The Hydraulion unit planned a Brockton Fair excursion with a Newport line bus and a social boil dinner with a long committee list. Defiance Hose accepted William Baker Jr's resignation and elected Joseph Cunha to fill second assistant foreman, with Frank Terra Jr as orderly. Ever Ready Engine & Hose announced a Stonington trip by bus tomorrow at 5:30 pm. Westerly trip planned for Oct 26 with one new member. Dreadnaught Hose received several new applicants. other committees arranged Halloween and social events.

Boy Promoted for His Good Record

Robert Levy son of Mr and Mrs Louis Levy of 145 High Street has been promoted to the Senior Bank of the League of Curtis Salesmen. The Curtis Publishing Company of Philadelphia awards the Senior pin and a certificate signed by the circulation manager and league secretary. He hopes to advance to the Graduate rank as the program offers college expense aid up to 1500 per member until 250000 is offered.

Normal Training Teacher Selected In State Board Action

Miss Marguerite Brogan principal of Byfield School was named critic teacher for the Normal Training School to replace the long serving Miss Annie Scanlon. The appointment follows Miss Clara E Craig’s recommendation and awaits school committee approval.

Albert A Edmonds Elected Chief Marshal for Armistice Day Parade

Albert A Edmonds, Post Commander of Kearney Post No 6, American Legion, was chosen Chief Marshal for the Armistice Day parade on November 11. The selection was made by the celebration committee at a Hotel Belvedere meeting, with efforts planned to close local manufacturing plants and stores for the day.
