Army dimout regulations extend to all New England residents effective after sunset November 30. Homes must shade windows three quarters, show windows limit lighting to 15 watts per eight feet, car headlights masked, and exterior lights reduced. Local wardens enforce, with Army interpretation restricted to regs.
Bristol salvage officials announce a 8 o clock meeting at the Fagen Paull House on Hope Street led by Ian M Walker. Town crews under Richard Connery collect curbside tins today. residents must rinse labels and ends, flatten cans, and place in cardboard boxes for pickup. A follow up collection will be announced in the Phoenix within the next month.
Town Council ruled no fires at the dump for the duration after Giacomo Marasco, caretaker, described persistent smoldering and fires. Industrial plants dump rubbish before noon to avoid night burning. a dim-out rule followed to reduce smoke for nearby residents. A note adds that a son was born to Mr and Mrs Octave LeClair Jr on November 22 in Norwich, Connecticut.
Sugar and coffee join rationed commodities with stamp No 27 for one pound per eligible buyer. Buyers must not hoard and should limit purchases to one pound at a time. Children under 15 cannot use coffee stamps. no green coffee sold.
War Price and Rationing Board No 152.1 issued permits to Callan Construction Co on Gray Street for road work and various tires and retreads for Ferrycliff Farm Frank A Gogha of Richmond Street and other defense workers including William Davenport Harold W Gifford and Manuel B Sousa with specifics on passenger tires and tire retreads.
Oil users for central or space heaters may obtain ration coupons Monday by visiting Reynolds School auditorium between 10 am and 5 pm and again 7 pm to 9 pm. Captain Paul A Herzig, chairman of the Rationing Board, stated all users may apply regardless of name order. Each applicant must prove identity and no coupons will be issued to anyone under 21.
The Y M A plans a New Years Eve jamboree from 10 PM to 2 30 AM at the Y to welcome the New Year under supervision. Parents of five couples host, dancing features a seven piece Bristol boys orchestra led by Joseph Victoria. Floor shows, grand year’s end celebration at midnight, breakfast in Rockwell Hall, tickets sold in advance for 100 couples.
Cub Pack No 14 held Spoon Night with Den 2 led by Denner Frank Fuji winning most contests while new recruits are sought to fill all dens by December. Pack meets Wednesdays at 6 15 PM in Scout Hall for boys ages 9 to 12. Den Chiefs Walter Machado Frank DeLuca and Carmine Langello led the program.
AP correspondent Wes Gallagher reports from a Mediterranean cruise where a proud British crew recalled action at Oran. The vessel sank three French heavy destroyers, damaged others, and evacuated about 300 American troops while dodging torpedoes and shore fire.
