One Hundred Ninety Year Anniversary of First Bristol Church
The Bristol community marks the 192nd anniversary of the Christian Church in Bristol with a memorial service and an overlook of its early houses of worship. The first sanctuary, erected 1683 near the current Bristol County Court House, featured double galleries and cupola bells. The 1784 charter and 1785 dedication followed by later renovations culminated in the 18th century move to a Bradford Street site and town ownership. A separate note recalls a violent day in town with a postmaster shot, runaway horse incidents, and a 10,090 fire at the rubber works alongside multiple injuries and nervous shocks.
