Nation of pleasure seekers cited as leading to trouble

The Rev. Charles R. Cooley warned at First Congregational Church that a nation obsessed with pleasure harms worship of God and slows the nation's gratitude. He spoke on Thanksgiving, urged a grateful heart, and used a Hamlet parody to critique chronic complaining and self pity.

Fire Truck and Bus Collide in Strong Storm

High winds and heavy rain caused a dramatic collision as a New England Transportation bus struck a fire truck from Defiance Fire Company near Chestnut and Hope. Three people were injured, a chimney toppled, branches fell, and cellars flooded. Driver names are given with addresses for the bus and truck crews.

Baptist Church Plans Supper for Church Fund Drive

At a First Baptist Church meeting in this town plans were made for a Ham and Bean Supper on Tuesday December 2 in the church vestry. Mrs Henry Luther chairs the arrangements with Mr and Mrs Bertram F Bullock Jr Miss Hortense Burdon and Mr and Mrs Robert Powell assisting. An auction sale of food followed the business session with Bertram F Bullock Jr as auctioneer. Proceeds will support the church organ fund after storm damage.

Heavy rain disrupted Bristol Historical Society at Holmes House as speaker Mrs. Floyd Chaffee missed her talk on Historical Fans. Attendees shared fans. Agnes Herreshoff presented a life of Nathaniel G. Herreshoff. Henry Keck discussed Warren history and his forthcoming book. Officers to be elected January 26.

Bishop Bennett to Speak At Bristol Rotary Meeting

The Rev Granville G Bennett bishop of the Episcopal diocese will deliver his thirteenth annual Thanksgiving Day message to the Bristol Rotary Club at noon tomorrow. Worcester Auditor Dies After Long Illness

Frank B. Messinger of Worcester Massachusetts who served as auditor at Carr Manufacturing Corporation in Bristol since its inception died Friday after a long illness. His funeral was held yesterday at 3 p.m. at St Luke's Church Worcester attended by Mr and Mrs Arthur H Eastman and Mrs Athur H Carr of this town.

Townies Home Season Ends In Blaze Of Glory

Bristol Townies cap a flawless home record with a 27-0 win over Town 400 at Guiteras Field. Hector Massa spearheaded the attack with Cirillo Freitas and McHugh scoring while McCaw added a late rushing TD. Next week the Townies face Riverside Crescents in East Providence to close the 1947 football festivities.

Town Council to Review 34 Liquor License Renewals
