Thanksgiving Program at Burton School Marks First-Grade Exercises

First grade exercises at Burton school under Miss Emeline A Munro featured songs such as Thanksgiving is Coming Picking Apples The Apples Have Been Gathered and Turkey Gobblers Alongside a Thanksgiving Acrostic led by students including Ethel Kirk Eva Baron Dorothy Ingram Edna Webb Marion McLeod Lena Gioffi George Lee Edwin Keegan Alec Guevremont George Coggeshall Emile Dubuc Carmelo Langello Frank Heffernan John Higgins Herbert Geisler and others A separate musical service at St Michael s Church Bristol Thursday evening December 1 with 80 chorus voices and selections by Miss Lillian Wilson Nan McCarty Benjamin Wilson George Warren EB Valentine and others followed by a similar service in Christ Church Providence December 2 with the same program and different soloists.

Thanksgiving eve social hops in Bristol and Pokanoket halls

Three social hops were held on Thanksgiving Eve at Bristol with the Bristol Train of Artillery providing dance music by a six piece Straight Bros orchestra. Attendance was good. Committees included Major Gardner, Capt Sparks, and Sergeants Graham Robertson Perry. The Young Men Parish Club social at Parish Club hall had elegant decorations and Vaccaro Bros five piece orchestra with refreshments. Committee members were Harry Bush, Frank Stuart, William Kirkwood, and Adam Hodgkinson. Edward Christie and Nathan McUarty hosted a dance at Pokanoket hall with Christie’s six piece orchestra.

Deaths of Civil War Veterans at Soldiers' Home

George Baache aged 78 and Caleb Rice aged 82, Civil War veterans, died at the Soldiers' Home on Tuesday evening. Baache, a German native, served in the 7th Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry and died of brain hemorrhage after a year at Providence home. his wife survives. Rice, who served in Company G of the First Rhode Island Cavalry, died of senility after about three years at the home. his wife resides in Coventry and a sister in Scituate. Remains were sent for burial in Coventry and Providence respectively.
