A first grade teacher Miss Mary La Tice of Oliver School was defended by the school committee after a heated open session led by Anthony Carreira who alleged remarks about his niece prompted a transfer to a parochial school. Superintendent Edward J Fitzgerald and administrator Miss Mary Scanlon defended the teacher saying no harmful statements were made and the matter should be handled privately with possible program reforms for advanced students in math English and science.

At the November meeting the Bristol Women s Club set Dec 14 for its annual Christmas party at the club rooms with Mrs Joseph Velleca and Mrs Robert Treanor in charge. Bristol Furniture Buys Makowsky Block on Hope Street
The Bristol Furniture Co. acquired the Makowsky Building at 539 Hope St in a formal transfer in the office of Attorney Joseph D Accard. The move, among the largest downtown, plans renovation of the former Max Makowsky Store site at 135 Bradford St and aims to add life to Hope Street. Frank Parella said the Parella family owns Bristol Furniture with partners Frank Salvatore George and Virginia Parella. The building previously housed the Star Theater and See also First National Store B W Wall Inc Callan Construction and Makowsky offices. The former Makowsky store operated many years on the first floor. The Rogers Free Library occupied space in the vacant store after a fire. The block’s renovation could revive the downtown area.

Firemen Prepare For M D Week In Bristol
Bristol firemen begin distributing kits and enlist 175 volunteers for Muscular Dystrophy Association's Iron Drive.
