A southeast gale turned northwest and reached near hurricane force, 70 to 80 mph, drenched streets with torrential rain, and caused widespread flooding. Townies Claim County Title After Narrow Victory
The Bristol Townies of the Naugatuck News and Colonial League won the county title in a rain soaked game against Warren U. S. Rubber Co. in Naugatuck. The win came as Sgt. Joseph A Barboza, a local war casualty, returned home for burial in town. A large crowd gathered as his flag draped casket arrived by train at 6:27 p m. Veterans and residents stood in silence to honor him. Funeral services and ceremonies are planned with arrangements overseen by the Naugatuck Veterans Council.
