Armistice Day Celebrations Dazzle Town Parade Crowd

The sixth Armistice Day observance exceeded prior celebrations with a long parade through town, crowds from Warren and nearby towns, and a near Fourth of July scale program. Bertram W Wall led 40 marshals as pomp filled the day from a church chimes concert to flag raising, with 250 in line from multiple posts and several bands. A 1 pm football game saw Warwick defeat Colt Memorial 31-0, followed by athlete events and races won by Barrington and Bristol competitors. The sports committee was John W Flynn, William A. Francis, Frederick E. Garvin, and Elmer G Maxfield.

School Committee Votes and Site Debate Over Guiteras School

The School Committee discussed securing options on properties for the Elizabeth Wardwell Guiteras Memorial School north of Washington street. A vote legality dispute over October actions was raised by Dr C J Hasbrouck and Mrs Condon, with vote records adjusted to 4 to 3. Superintendent Hobbs received—Feb leave, expenses approved. other routine items granted auditorium use and committee appointments while Hobbs monthly report was filed.

Fires Race Through Two Homes on Constitution Street

Fire crews battled a chimney blaze at a cottage on Constitution Street owned by Mrs Charles Brigham. Shortly before midnight a second alarm found an unoccupied house owned by Mrs Annie Wardwell afire, suspected incendiary origin with minimal damage.

Poultry Exhibition Plans Delayed by Prize Fund Shortfall

Dr Howard W. Church, president of the Bristol County Poultry Association, says the annual poultry show usually held in November at Grand Army Hall is not yet perfected due to $500 prize money held up by Senate filibuster. He hopes to finalize alternative prize plans and still stage a successful exhibition, albeit at a later date.

Whist Night Awards At Bristol K of C Hall

Eighteen tables filled Bristol Council Knights of Columbus Whist event at the K of C Home on State Street. Women winners were Mrs Fred Foster first with 38 points and a three piece mayonnaise set, Mrs Lena Wells second with 36 points a china salt and pepper shaker set, and Miss Mary Lannon third with 7 points a silk handkerchief. Men’s prizes went to Francis Connell 44 points a silver pencil, Joseph M Edmonds 36 points an ash tray, and Charles H Whittum 13 points a toothpaste. Next whist is scheduled for Wednesday evening December 3.
