Dr. D. V. A. Capone chairs a Bristol blood program to mobilize community support for the Red Cross Bloodmobile’s December 19 visit. Bristol’s 286 pint quota aims to yield up to 150 pints in a six hour stay, with all blood going to armed forces. Contact Capone or Mrs Diman to volunteer or work.
Warren High School football visits Colt Memorial at Guiteras Field in Bristol at 2 pm tomorrow. Colt leads the state class C conference with five wins and no defeats, while Warren hopes to dethrone them and improve its own season. Coach Ralph K Nash notes Warren players rise for Colt but expects a tough matchup.
The Brown Alumnae Club of Bristol County voted Monday to rename as the Pembroke College Club of Bristol County. The Barrington Public Library hosted the meeting with a report from members who attended Pembroke College Alumnae Council meetings on Nov. 2 and 3. Hostesses were Mrs. Franklin Springer Miss Charlotte Young and Mrs. Hugh Cameron Mrs. E Anthony Mason.
Men who have taken pre induction physicals and not received induction notices may enlist in the regular army or United States Air Force before midnight November 30. Sgt William E Boulais, in charge of Army and Air Force Recruiting for Bristol and Warren, urged interested young people to contact him at Room 202 Post Office Building Warren from 9 to 12 a.m. weekdays.
Chukuemeka Okoye of Nigeria will address the Diplomatists Club on Friday in Providence at the International Institute headquarters 58 Jackson Street. Alfred R. Rego, consul for the Dominican Republic, disclosed the event and Okoye will discuss Nigeria's economic and social conditions.
The Parent Teachers Association schedules an audiovisual classroom program titled What Film Do Your Children See at School at Reynolds Auditorium this Thursday at 8 p m. Mass Joan E Doyle of Reynolds School directs with fifth grade pupils participating. Refreshments follow, hosted by the hospitality committee: Mrs Salvatore Rossi chair, with Mrs Sidney Kullberg Mrs Benjamin Hazen Mrs Sophia Oliver Mrs J Foster Price and Mrs Louis Evans.
The Bristol Neck Boys 4-H Club attended the Barrington Town Hall achievement night on Thursday Nov 1. Area residents brought projects judged on workmanship and skill and awards were handed out. Local awardees included Fred Cornell John Leahy Bob Leahy John Burke David Usher Bill DuPont Donald McGinn and Sandy Sandro who received pins.
Little League officers met at the YMCA and decided to hold another meeting on Dec 8. A nominating committee was appointed including Marty Biancuzzo, Anthony Pereira, Francis J. Murphy, James McKenna and Louis Castriotta. Roger W. Pigeon announced plans to purchase equipment for the next season and noted new safety hats bearing each team letter.
Miss Margaret F. Nerone Bristol school art supervisor told Bristol Rotary Club about her summer European tour. She contrasted French and Italian attitudes toward Americans and described travel from Montreal on a Greek ship with German stewards. She noted French workers' long hours and observed primitive implements, mentioning she did not see Marshall Plan items.
A survey of the Bristol Senior High School class of 1950 shows 20 graduates entered colleges and institutes, including Herman Grabert at the University of Rhode Island and Kenneth Robinson at RPI. Other attendees include Paul Asciola and Frank Cappabianco at Providence College, Joan Burke at Rhode Island College of Education, and six at Bryant College.
The Bristol Board of Trustees reviewed state law on refunds for teachers who contributed to the retirement fund. The 1936 provision allowed refunds for married teachers replaced, but clarifications were ordered as current interpretations caused confusion. A sub committee will work with the town solicitor to update the law governing Bristol schools.
Josephine Ripley of the Christian Science Monitor quoted about Princess Elizabeth and the Duke during their Washington visit. Reporters found Elizabeth attractive and youthful, smaller and trim, capable of a demanding royal schedule, and relaxed in front of President Truman at the embassy reception and in public appearances.
