Democrats Repeat Traditional Victory In Bristol
Bristol voters gave Republican President Eisenhower a majority for the first time since 1924, totaling 3,236 to Stevenson by 154 in a statewide landslide reflected across Rhode Island. In 1924 Coolidge led Davis 1,315 to 1,487. Four years ago Ike failed to carry Bristol.

Record Turnout Of 6 685 Voters At Four Polls
A record turnout of 6 685 Bris tolians voted in yesterday's general election the greatest number in any election and 90 per cent of the total eligible vote. Last minute campaign by both parties to get out the vote plus nationwide emphasis on individual votes credited for the turnout. Lines formed at polling places with Guiteras School handling 2 223 voters and four machines. Court House 1 908 votes. Armory and other sites also busy. Reynolds School had 1 179 votes and closed promptly at 9 pm. Weather favorable and concerns over international crises contributed to the high turnout with observers noting Hung ary and Egypt tensions as a factor.

Only Republican Dwight D Eisenhower won, becoming the first GOP presidential candidate to carry Bristol since 1924. Bristol resumes tallying 164 outstanding votes including 62 absentee ballots 49 servicemen's ballots and 3 from shut ins. The only potential change is the Lima Church contest for the Second District representative where Lima leads by 69. If half the absentee votes originate there Church would need a large gain to close the gap.
