Muriel Ashton Named Junior Vice Commander In Legion District
Miss Muriel G Ashton becomes the first woman elected to the post of junior vice commander of the Legion district at a special election held after the district meeting at the Tiverton Post Home. She has prior service with the WAC and will head a five member team under each captain. The Kearney Post executive committee met to review by laws and Armistice Day plans with installation of officers set for November 15.

The Bristol area held a large Halloween celebration with a 1200-strong turnout from Kearney Post No. 6 and Rotary Club. A giant costume parade through town preceded events at Guneras School and the Y M C A with entertainment by Tony Lacedo and a magician. Door prizes went to multiple residents as 600 filled the Guiteras Junior High auditorium for the show and moving pictures.

Parents of Sgt Joseph Barboza learn his WW2 death body arrived in New York City and will be buried in Naugatuck on November 7 at 9 am. He was born in town, moved to Naugatuck, married there, and was killed in Germany on December 1, 1944. Burial from Fritzpatrick Funeral Home.
