New Hog Island Light to Replace Lightship at South Shoal
Reports from the third lighthouse district say an iron caisson has been built for a foundation at Hog Island south shoal to support a proposed new lighthouse. The stone foundation will be laid inside the caisson. Ice-breaker measures and winter repairs are planned. Construction should start next spring and take about three months, after which the lightship will be removed and only two keepers will remain.
