G A R Officials Visit Bristol Soldiers Home and Supper

G A R Department Commander Christopher H Carpenter and staff vis ited the Soldiers Home in Bristol on Friday. Luncheon followed at 12 15 and grounds wards and hospital were inspected. An evening supper and open meeting at Grand Army Hall featured speakers Ezra Dixon Fred A Burt and comments on post ranks with aramintas automobile and where do you live readings and singing The event closed with a flag salute and The Star Spangled Banner and dancing.

Mount Hope Chapter No 23 Eastern Star showcases an entertainment program in the Colt Memorial high school auditorium. Newport’s Miss Funice Annette Maher leads songs and dances with Dr Allister Maclyver as pianist. The lineup includes readings by Mrs Low Archibald Manchester of Swansea and Vernon A Gray tenor solos with the Mount Hope Chapter Orchestra performing eight pieces.

American Legion Popularity Contest Winners Named

Kearnes Post No 6 held its first popularity contest ending last night with Miss Elizabeth Lynch winning. Miss Flla Mae Lemaire came in second and Miss Dorothy Conley third. Judges Fred Suzman James Magee and Arthur McCaw counted the votes. The Armistice Ball at the State Armory on November 11 will present a silver cup donated by Albert A Edmonds.

Fifth District Court Truant Case Guilt and Fines

In the Fifth District Court Joseph Campo of Goodinglane was found guilty for neglecting to send his daughter to school and fined 10 plus costs after a prior period of noncompliance. Truant Officer James F Meiggs reported Campo now sends the child regularly. A civil case Hope Loan Company v Manuel M Silva was continued a week. In Juvenile Court an eight year old boy charged with truancy was sentenced to six months at Sockanosset School.

Y M C A Notes on Rowing Meet and Tournament Planning

The Y M C A alleys host a special meeting tomorrow at RB o'clock to discuss plans for the annual tournament and schedule. Four YMCA teams plus guests from Kearney Post the American Legion and local companies will participate. Harold Newman and Donat Quintal tied for high single with 122. Robert W Nelson Alec Guevremont and Oscar Herzig tied for second with 115. Richmond Gorham led three-string total at 333 with Herzig at 329.

Successful Whist and Candy Sale by St Marys Altar Society

Members of the Altar Society of St Marys Church hosted a Halloween whist and candy sale in the church basement auditorium on Friday night. The event drew 35 tables, with prizes awarded to Mary McMurrough Alice Walsh Margaret Head Frank Perry and Joseph Roderick. Funeral services for Mrs Mary Consels who died Thursday were held at 8:30 o clock Saturday morning followed by a 9 o'clock requiem mass at St Elizabeth's Church. Bearers were Joseph Coite Joseph I Marshall Joseph Williams Antonio F Coite Louis Pontes and Anthony J Coite. Interment was at St Mary's Cemetery.

New Tennis Court Project At Excelsior Club
