The program for Memorial Day May 30, 1935, by Babbitt Post No. 15 and allied groups lists Grand Army Hall assembly at 9 a.m. in uniform or dark clothes. The route goes to North Cemetery and Soldiers Lot with ceremonies led by Vernon A. Gran, and feature scouts bands and D A R readings and Taps.
Bristol launches a mile of pennies fundraising drive for the July Fourth celebration. Campaign chairman Fred Wilbur asks townspeople to fill one-foot cards with sixteen pennies each, distributed to homes by committee members. The plan aims to raise over 800 dollars.
The Town Council approved a plan to reshape the east side of Hope Street between State and Court streets with cement steps and a four foot sidewalk extension. Steps in front of the YMCA Post Office and A L Johnston's will stay, with cement coverings added between them, and a few trees will be removed to improve downtown parking access.
A Bristol Rotary Club public meeting at Colt Memorial Hall on Sunday evening June 9 will explore the growth of Communism in the United States. Dr Lester Merritt of Fall River, former District Governor of the 31st Rotary District, will be the principal speaker with Brig Gen ILH Callagy presiding.
Ferrycliffe Farm displays a show of its products with pictures and maps in the RI Hospital Trust Company lobby. Highlights include a painting of Guilderoy the prize Jersey bull, a refrigerated case of farm produce, Jersey cattle miniature barn, and peppered with animal life figures.
Postmaster Daniel W Coggeshall announces Memorial Day with all services closed. No carrier pickups or deliveries, no general or stamp window service, money order and registry divisions shut, no mails in or out. Lobby remains open 7 AM to 6 PM.
Subcommittees for the Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church organ fund dance and bazaar were announced at a parish meeting. Named chairs include John St Angelo and Louis Nastri with members handling Refreshments, Tickets, and Music. The general committee lists Rev Joseph Sorzano and local officials among others.
Warning of county fair by Bristol Girl Scout Council draws shoppers from Warren Barrington and Newport. Puppy sale tickets sell fast as visitors plan to stay for dancing and meals on site. Committee seeks central transportation to grounds to help Bristol residents attend.
The Cohan production 45 Minutes From Broadway opens tonight at Guiteras Memorial High School Auditorium under the BTA Entertainment Association. Mrs. M Theresa Donovan directs with James F Meiggs in charge of lighting and scenery, assisted by Louis Gallo. The cast includes Mary Jane Jenks Lorena McKay and Virginia LeClair Martin with a full chorus and band.
Thirty to forty? no. 70 boys and girls will receive their first Holy Communion at 7 30 Thursday morning services at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church with Rev Joseph Sorzana officiating. In the afternoon the children join in the annual May procession with St Rita's Girls Club participants, including Miss Theresa Turilla and Miss Josephine Maturi. The new organ was dedicated last Sunday with Bartholomew Marenchino blessing the instrument or the occasion.
Ezra Dixon the town's only surviving Grand Army of the Republic veteran will honor departed comrades by riding in the Memorial Day parade Thursday morning keeping faith with his fellow veterans.
Ascension Day services will be held Thursday morning across Bristol with Masses and Holy Communion at St Michael's St Mary's Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Elizabeth's. St Michael's offers Holy Communion at 9 AM and other churches schedule early morning masses.

More than 200 children joined the annual May procession at St Marys Church Sunday afternoon. Sisters of Mercy led the procession around the church grounds and to the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Catherine Hammill presented a golden crown on the statue assisted by attendants and other young girls represented in the ceremony.
