Memorial Day Observance Assembly in Bristol 1927

The Babbitt Post No 15 and invited groups gather at headquarters for Memorial Day May 30 1927 at 9 am in uniform or dark clothes. A detailed parade route and program include the Portuguese Independent Band Bristol Army units, Boy and Girl Scouts, D A R and American Legion members, with wreaths, prayers, and a forthright tribute at North Cemetery and the Soldiers Sailors monument.

State Board Penalizes Sixty Auto Drivers

The State Board of Public Roads suspended or revoked licenses of sixty drivers on Wednesday. Eight licenses were revoked, five for operating under the influence. William A Rego of 42 Bay View Avenue had his license suspended for improper use and operation.

Town Council Reinstates Night Police Captain After Executive Session

Town Council held a special executive meeting from 7 45 p m to 1 a m with full board. Chief Kavanaugh and Capt Goff discussed harmony in the police department leading to Goff being reinstated as captain of the night force. The council voted to buy a new police motorcycle and repair the existing car. An engineer will lay out widening plans for Washington Street south of Guiteras school to 50 feet. Police officers’ vacations were set for June through September.

Bristol Civic Betterment Commission organized at Belvedere

Bertram W Wall was elected chairman and Angelo Pozzi secretary and treasurer at the Bristol Civic Betterment Commission organization meeting held Wednesday night in the Hotel Belvedere. The group discussed forming a community service council and inviting town organizations to send representatives to the next meeting. Plans for a women’s development group were suggested. Commission members named by the Town Council are Bertram W Wall Edward D Kunz Angelo Pozzi Max Makowsky Peter Lannon and Sebastian Bernard Jr.

Radio Carnival at First Baptist Vestry Draws Crowd

The G. G. Group held a successful Radio Carnival in the vestry of the First Baptist Church on Wednesday evening. Event organizers listed tables for candy and cake, grabs, groceries, coffee, frankforts, ice cream, and sodas with volunteers including Miss Lucy Wall, Mrs Fred Mott, Miss Dorothy Mott, Miss Doris Bullock, Miss May Williams, Mrs Joseph Alger, Mrs George Marshall, Charles Liscomb, Edward Bullock, Jordon Brown, John Henry Buffum, and Henry Bullock.

The Rose of Tokio Rehearsals At Pastime Theatre

Rehearsals are underway for The Rose of Tokio a Japanese comedy with songs dances and costumes to be shown at the Pastime Theatre on June 1 and 2 under Bristol Council Knights of Columbus Miss M Theresa Sullivan is cast as Fu San and expected to anchor the show The French Dancing Girls from the cast will also perform on Saturday evening as a special feature alongside the usual film program.

Automobile Crash Damages Beacon at Nigh and Bradford

A touring car crashed into a traffic beacon at Nigh and Bradford Streets at 3 30 yesterday morning injuring Dog Officer Rodney D Simmons and Mark Bailey who were westbound on Bradford. The front end was smashed and towed to a garage. Bailey suffered a severe cut requiring three stitches and Simmons a cut on the nose with hand bruises. The cement base of the beacon weighing about half a ton was moved four feet by the impact.

Ordained to Priesthood for Walsh at St Mary’s Cathedral

Friends attended the ordination of Thomas F. Walsh by Bishop Feehan of Fall River at St Mary’s Cathedral. Walsh will celebrate his first solemn high mass at St Joseph’s in Fall River. He previously worked as a foreman in the stitching department of the National India Rubber Company factory.
