Steel Mast in Defender at Herreshoff Yard
The hollow steel mast, amid much speculation, was completed at Herreshoff and moved by Archer’s lighter to Defender, lifted by their steam derrick under supervision of Capt. Nat Herreshoff and Capt. Rhodes. Bulman’s men reportedly face leave Bristol soon with launch date for Columbia undecided. A cafe debate over politics ends with a jab about age and a joke about a savvy couple arrested as swindlers, claimed as devotion.
