Floats Anticipated for Bristol Fourth Celebration

A Bristol High School art group led by Miss Nunes volunteers to design a float for the Fourth of July. Donations to cover celebration costs total $27 with contributions from F. Dimond Estrella and others. The Yacht Club invited visiting ships and guards to a pre Fourth of July dance, while the bonfire committee was urged to secure a site despite no report on the event.

Local Jaycees To Host State Convention Tonight

Local Junior Chamber of Commerce will host 300 visiting Jaycees from across Rhode Island for the annual convention opening tonight at 8 30 pm at the American Legion Hall Franklin Street Twelve clubs will be represented The program includes a state directors meeting, Norman Baris award competition, and a 1230 luncheon with Harold Geller Gov Dennis J Roberts and Rev Msgr Charles H Tymch to speak The convention closes with a dinner dance tomorrow at the Midway Richard Rene chaired the planning committee Also, former St Louis Cardinals player Herman Grabert was flown to Rhode Island Hospital after an injury in Georgia and will be out about a month

The Bayberry Garden Club planted geraniums and petunias along Hope Street near the Post Office. They request nearby businessmen water and watch over the flowers until October. The note imagines Postmaster Coggeshall and Councilman Ferris volunteering to water and sweep sidewalks each morning.

Phone Company OKs Bristol Bid for Exchange on Court Street

The New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. board accepted Bristol’s $15,000 bid for the former Court Street exchange. The decision, announced at a planning board meeting last night, ends a lengthy town bid process.

Elks To Discuss New Home With Larger Quarters

The Bristol County Lodge of Elks will hear a report from its building committee Monday night on a possible new Elks Home. They seek a larger hall and more auto parking, preferably closer to Warren and B where many members live. The Mid way Steak and Lobster House at Hope Standing Ave is among sites discussed.

Fails To Stop Bid Invitation Delays Post Office Site Move

A five week litigation delay surrounds the State Street post office site with bids still due June 15 as the postal department maintains plans for a new building. In superior court the second postponement of an injunction hearing was ordered, Dr Antonio D'Angelo facing the suit against Knights of Columbus Association over the site. The town plans include a parking lot and potential uses for the old post office and jail, with council awaiting further action.

Colt Upset St Raphael in 12 Innings at Pawtucket

Colt pulled the upset of the Eastern Division at McCosx Stadium beating St Raphael Academy 5-2 in 12 innings. Mascola earned the win with six strikeouts over seven innings, while Usher drove in the deciding run in the twelfth. Newport rolled past West 14-0 as Caswell’s squad extended its winning streak to nine before facing Rogers.
