Bristol town records show about $11 989.23 remains of a $60 000 emergency highway and hurricane repair fund borrowed last year. Expenditures total about $21 6k for rehab and relief, with 335 residents aided by WPA SUR NYA and student aid.
Bristol officials urge three month cleanup cycles starting late June to keep streets tidy. Councilors Velleca and Herzig push bans on private dumps and fines for violators while detailing dump rules and penalties.
Fifteen year old Herman Gablinske of Andrews Memorial High School had the first joint of his left ring finger amputated after his hand was caught in an electric planing machine at the school. Dr William L Serbst performed the operation.
Fire of undetermined origin in Bristol this morning threatened the two story residence of Mrs Annie J Bottomley at 15 Lincoln Avenue. Four volunteer units under Chief Fred Guevremont battled the blaze starting in the first floor kitchen. Damages occurred to the first floor tenement rented by Mr and Mrs George Moore and family while Mrs Bottomley and her family were home.
Frances Durand a six year old girl from Chilton Street was struck by a car driven by Michael Pasquarelli of Catherine Street on Wood Street near St Marys Parish School. She suffered a bruised left thigh and was treated by Dr A F DAngelo. Pasquarelli is secretary of the Bristol County Safety Council which is planning a safety program for St Marys school.
A Bristol County water rates study panel comprising town solicitors from three towns and James Goff discusses pursuing a formal hearing before the Public Utilities Commissioner. They weigh funding an independent property appraisal estimated at 2500 to 3000 dollars and debate informal versus formal hearings.
The town plans a 31 member Fourth of July celebration committee to run the event with full power to name its own chairman and officers. Expected officers include James F Meiggs as chairman John G Stewart as secretary and James J Velleca as treasurer. The slate lists numerous members led by these three appointees and 28 others.
Public Utilities Administrator Benjamin M McLyman orders New England Transportation Company to issue 60 ride commutation tickets to River side Barrington Warren and this town with extended zone limits at Barrington and Bristol Highlands The 60 ride ticket is valid for 30 days and for the named rider Only Beach Terrace Poppasquash Road Bristol and Bristol Highlands routes have new prices per ride lower than before The rates take effect June 1 and the company has added six newer larger buses and increased trips to address service concerns
